Collegiate Ministry in the Synod of Lakes and Prairies

The Synod of Lakes and Prairies continues its long-standing commitment to collegiate ministry, and its funding guidelines reflect an inclusive understanding of collegiate ministry that embraces not only campus ministry, but also congregational-based and chaplaincy-based ministry. The funding guidelines are intended to help the synod be a better steward of its resources and reach out to more students.

The synod will consider proposals that would either provide short-term funding to help established ministries become self-sustaining in the near future, or would grant seed money for new ministries or for new initiatives of established ministries, or would provide leadership development opportunities for professional or volunteer ministry leaders. Mini-grants, such as grants for fall- or spring-break activities, are also available. The mini-grant application form is also available below.

Those who are involved in any kind of ministry to college students are encouraged to download the application guidelines and to download, complete and submit the appropriate application -- either the grant application or the mini-grant application. Applications submitted via e-mail are preferred.

Only collegiate ministries at institutions of higher education within the Synod of Lakes and Prairies are eligible to receive these grants.

Questions may be sent to Duane Sweep, staff liaison for the Task Force on Collegiate Ministry of the synod’s Ecclesiastical Relations Committee. He will respond individually to questions, and some questions and answers may be posted to this website.

To apply, save a copy of the appropriate application to your computer and complete it there. When finished, e-mail the form to Duane Sweep.
